About Forward Commons™

Forward Commons™ LLC was founded on a simple belief: independent adults deserve housing that is clean, safe, affordable, and dignified. We saw a gap between high-cost apartments and the institutional settings too many adults are forced to accept — and we built something better.

We are a professional housing company, not a nonprofit, shelter, or treatment program. We provide furnished shared homes where residents have their own private or semi-private sleeping space and share common areas — kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms — with other independent adults.

Our first property is a men's shared home on Long Island, and we are actively expanding. Every Forward Commons™ home is professionally managed, regularly maintained, and held to a standard we'd want for our own families.

Our house rules exist to protect every resident's right to a clean, quiet, and respectful home. They're straightforward — and they're enforced.

Substance-Free Environment

No alcohol, drugs, or illegal substances on the premises. This is a firm, non-negotiable rule for all residents.

Respect for All Residents

Treat every housemate with courtesy and respect. Harassment, discrimination, or threats result in immediate removal.

Quiet Hours

Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Noise should be kept to a minimum during these hours.

Clean Up After Yourself

Residents are responsible for cleaning up after themselves in all shared spaces — kitchen, bathroom, and living areas.

Overnight Guests

Overnight guests are not permitted without prior approval from management. No long-term visitors.

Timely Rent Payments

Rent is due on the agreed-upon schedule. Consistent late payments may result in loss of residency.

No Smoking Indoors

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the home. Designated outdoor areas are available.

No. While we accept referrals from hospitals, shelters, case managers, treatment centers, probation officers, and community organizations, you can also apply directly. Everyone goes through the same application and screening process.
Each resident receives a bed, dresser, and basic furnishings. You'll need to bring personal items — bedding, toiletries, clothing, and any personal belongings. Shared areas come fully equipped with kitchen appliances, cookware, and living room furniture.
No. Forward Commons™ is a professional housing company. We provide shared housing only. We do not provide medical care, nursing, counseling, treatment, transportation, meals, medication management, or case management. Residents must be able to live independently.
Our process includes a completed application, an interview — in person or by phone — verification of income or benefits, and a background check. We want to make sure every resident is a good fit for shared living and can follow house rules.
Our first home is a men's shared home. As we expand across Long Island and NYC, we plan to open additional homes — including women's and co-ed options. Contact us to learn about upcoming properties.
House rules are enforced to protect all residents. Minor violations may result in warnings. Serious violations — especially those involving safety, substances, or harassment — can result in immediate removal. We prioritize the well-being of the household.
Residency is month-to-month with no long-term lease required, as long as rent is paid on time and house rules are followed. Many residents stay for several months to a year or more. We want Forward Commons™ to be a stable home, not a temporary stop.
